CRITICAL SECURITY WARNING: Never enter your Recovery Seed (12/24 words) on a computer or phone. Only enter it directly onto the Trezor device if prompted, or write it down on the provided paper card.
Phase 1: Preparation and Connection
Step 1.1: Unbox and Verify
- Check the physical packaging for any signs of tampering, tears, or previous opening.
- Ensure the holographic seal is intact and shows no damage.
- Unpack the Trezor and the USB cable.
Step 1.2: Connect to Trezor Suite
You must use the official Trezor Suite application or web interface.
- Go to the **official** Trezor start page.
- Download and install the **Trezor Suite** desktop application, or choose the web version.
- Connect your Trezor device to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
- Launch Trezor Suite. The application will detect your new device.
Phase 2: Firmware Installation
Step 2.1: Initial Firmware Download
A brand new Trezor requires the latest firmware for full functionality and security.
- The Trezor Suite will prompt you to install the firmware. Click **'Install Firmware'**.
- **Verify the fingerprint** on your computer screen matches the one displayed on your Trezor device. This is a critical security step.
- Confirm the installation on your Trezor device itself. The process will take a few moments.
- Your device will restart once the firmware is successfully installed.
Phase 3: Wallet Creation and Backup (The Most Important Step)
Step 3.1: Create New Wallet
Choose the option to **'Create New Wallet'**. Do not choose 'Recover Wallet' unless you are restoring an existing one.
Step 3.2: Generate Recovery Seed
- You will be prompted to create a **Recovery Seed**. This is a sequence of 12, 18, or 24 words (depending on the model).
- Prepare the paper Recovery Card provided in your box.
- The words will be displayed **ONLY** on the screen of your Trezor device.
- Carefully and accurately write down each word in the correct order on your paper card. **Double-check your spelling.**
- Store this paper card in a secure, fireproof, and private location. **Anyone who finds this card can take your funds.**
NEVER DIGITIZE THE SEED: Do not take a photo of your Recovery Seed, do not save it on your computer, cloud, or phone. Keep it offline and physical only.
Phase 4: Setting Up a PIN and Naming
Step 4.1: Establish a PIN
Your PIN protects your device from physical theft. The digits on your Trezor screen will be randomized.
- Trezor Suite will show an abstract 3x3 grid.
- The numbers will be displayed on your **Trezor screen only**.
- Look at the physical Trezor to see where the numbers are located, then click the corresponding positions on the 3x3 grid on your computer screen.
- Set a PIN of 4 to 9 digits. Confirm it a second time.
Step 4.2: Name Your Device
Give your Trezor a simple, memorable name (e.g., "MyMainTrezor"). This is for your convenience and does not impact security.
